The
EP-R8 (EdgePoint R8) is an
application-specific WISP outdoor control point combining Layer 3 routing with flexible PoE output and dual RJ45/SFP combination ports in a weatherproof outdoor enclosure for East African wireless ISP tower and rooftop deployments. Measuring
326.6 × 382.7 × 88.8 mm (12.9 × 15.1 × 3.5") without mount and weighing
3.4 kg (7.5 lb) without or 3.8 kg (8.4 lb) with wall mount, the EP-R8 features a
diecast aluminium alloy and UV-resistant polycarbonate enclosure with
153 N wind loading at 200 km/h and 200 km/h wind survivability. Powered by a
dual-core 600 MHz MIPS64 processor with hardware acceleration for packet processing, 2 GB DDR3-1600 RAM, and 4 GB code storage. Extreme
-40°C to 65°C operating temperature.
Power input via
(1) DC terminal block (54V DC, 6A) with self-correcting polarity protection and
(2) passive PoE inputs on eth0 and PoE-in (54V/1.5A, 4-pair). PoE output:
eth1–eth2 at 54V or 24V/1.4A 4-pair and eth3–eth7 at 24V/0.7A 2-pair passive PoE. Power monitoring covers
DC terminal block input and PoE-in/eth0 input power. Management via
(1) RJ45 serial port.
Supported voltage range: 42–56V DC.
