About the U7 Long-Range (U7-LR)
The U7-LR (U7 Long-Range) is a compact, ceiling-mount WiFi 7 access point combining next-generation wireless performance with extended signal range in a clean, unobtrusive form factor measuring ⌀175.7 × 43 mm (⌀6.9 × 1.7") and weighing just 448 g (15.8 oz). The polycarbonate and aluminium alloy enclosure with polycarbonate and galvanised steel (SGCC) mounting plate included enables secure ceiling and wall installation across offices, warehouses, and large-space environments throughout East Africa. Management via Ethernet with setup supported via UniFi iOS app (version 10.20.2 and later) and UniFi Android app (version 10.21.7 and later). Requires UniFi Network version 9.1.120 and later.
The U7-LR delivers dual-band WiFi 7 (802.11be) with 5 spatial streams across 5 GHz with 3×3 DL/UL MU-MIMO reaching 4.3 Gbps (BW160) and 2.4 GHz with 2×2 DL/UL MU-MIMO reaching 688 Mbps (BW40). Antenna gain of 6 dBi on 5 GHz and 4 dBi on 2.4 GHz with maximum TX power of 27 dBm on 5 GHz and 26 dBm on 2.4 GHz — among the highest TX power ratings in the U7 access point lineup — delivers extended reliable coverage across 160 m² (1,750 ft²) for 300+ simultaneously connected devices. Supported data rates span 7.3 Mbps to 4.3 Gbps on 802.11be WiFi 7 (MCS0–MCS13 NSS1/2/3, EHT 20/40/80/160), 7.3 Mbps to 3.6 Gbps on 802.11ax WiFi 6 (MCS0–MCS11 NSS1/2/3, HE 20/40/80/160), 6.5 Mbps to 2.6 Gbps on 802.11ac WiFi 5 (MCS0–MCS9 NSS1/2/3, VHT 20/40/80/160), and 6.5 Mbps to 450 Mbps on 802.11n (MCS0–MCS23, HT 20/40) — ensuring full backward compatibility with all client devices across East African networks. Channel bandwidth supports HT 20/40, VHT 20/40/80/160, HE 20/40/80/160, and EHT 20/40/80/160 MHz.
Wired connectivity is provided via (1) 2.5 GbE RJ45 uplink port — a significant upgrade over GbE-only access points — powered by PoE (42.5–57V DC) at a maximum of 14W. The 2.5 GbE uplink ensures the backhaul connection never becomes a bottleneck in high-throughput WiFi 7 deployments. Note: PoE adapter is not included — a PoE-capable switch or injector supporting 42.5–57V DC is required. Advanced wireless features include wireless meshing, 802.11r fast roaming, 802.11k Radio Resource Management (RRM), 802.11v BSS Transition Management, band steering, advanced radio management, and Passpoint (Hotspot 2.0). Captive hotspot portal capabilities include custom branding landing pages, voucher authentication, payment-based authentication, external portal server support, and password authentication — valuable for large hospitality venues, sports facilities, and public WiFi deployments across East Africa. Additional features include guest network isolation, Private Pre-Shared Key (PPSK), WiFi speed limiting, client device isolation, WiFi schedules, RADIUS over TLS (RadSec), and dynamic RADIUS-assigned VLAN.
Maximum power consumption is 14W via PoE input (42.5–57V DC). The white/blue system LED provides operational status indication. Operating temperature -30°C to 50°C (-22°F to 122°F) with 5–95% non-condensing humidity suits the full range of indoor East African environments from air-conditioned warehouses and offices to naturally ventilated large spaces.
