A full gateway in a desktop-sized unit Despite measuring just 98 x 98 x 30 mm, the UX runs the full UniFi Network application, including a stateful firewall, application-aware Layer 7 filtering, deep packet inspection, content filtering, and license-free SD-WAN. For a small office or a home office that wants proper network management rather than a basic consumer router, this puts enterprise-style features into a device that sits unobtrusively on a desk.
Two roles from one device The UX can operate as the primary gateway for a small network, managing up to four additional UniFi Network devices and 50+ simultaneous connected users, or it can be adopted purely as a WiFi 6 access point meshing into a larger existing UniFi network. This flexibility means the same hardware can suit a standalone small office setup or act as an easy coverage extension for a site that already has a UniFi gateway elsewhere.
WiFi 6 coverage without extra cabling The built-in dual-band WiFi 6 radio covers up to 140 m² (1,500 ft²) on its own, with throughput up to 2.4 Gbps on 5 GHz. For a small office layout, this can remove the need for a separate access point entirely, since the gateway itself provides both the routing and the wireless coverage.
VPN and remote access built in Site-to-site and remote access VPN options are included, covering IPsec, OpenVPN, WireGuard, L2TP, and Ubiquiti's zero-configuration Teleport VPN. This lets a small office connect securely back to a head office, or lets an individual reach their home or office network remotely, without purchasing separate VPN licensing.

Simplifi Networks distributes UniFi networking equipment to small businesses and network installers across Kenya, Uganda, and the wider East African region. The UniFi Express is a practical starting point for a small office wanting proper network management, and it can later be added into a larger UniFi deployment as coverage or requirements grow.
