Separating the gateway from the PoE switching layer gives a network more flexibility in how it scales each part independently, adding switch capacity without replacing the gateway, or vice versa. The Dream Machine Pro is built for that role: 3.5 Gbps of firewall throughput and 10G WAN/LAN capacity handle routing and security for a growing office, while its NVR bay and UniFi Protect support let it also manage a camera system without a separate recorder.
- 3.5 Gbps IPS/IDS throughput: Firewall inspection rated well above typical small-to-mid-sized business internet connections, worth confirming against the site's actual WAN speed.
- 100+ managed UniFi devices, 1,000+ clients: Sized for a full office or multi-site small business network.
- 10G SFP+ WAN and LAN ports: Supports higher-capacity internet and uplink connections as a network's bandwidth needs grow.
- 3.5" NVR bay: Stores UniFi Protect camera footage locally, adding video surveillance to the network without a separate recorder.
- Full UniFi application suite (Network, Protect, Access, Talk, Connect): Manages networking, cameras, access control, and calling from a single console.
- Multi-WAN load balancing and Shadow Mode (VRRP) failover: Allows a secondary internet connection to keep the network online if the primary link fails.
- Dynamic routing (OSPF, BGP): Supports more advanced routing setups for businesses with multiple sites or specific routing requirements.
Its main differentiator against the Dream Machine Special Edition is that it leaves PoE switching to separate hardware, which suits networks that already have PoE switches in place or prefer to size gateway and switching capacity independently rather than in one combined unit.
The Simplifi Advantage
Whether a network is better served by the Dream Machine Pro plus a separate PoE switch, or by the all-in-one Special Edition, depends on how the site is likely to grow, a question worth raising before ordering rather than after. Simplifi Networks, an authorized Ubiquiti distributor for Kenya and Uganda, supplies genuine Dream Machine Pro units and can talk through that decision for businesses building out routing, security, and surveillance together.
