UniFi Express (UX)

The UX (UniFi Express) is an ultra-portable, all-in-one Cloud Gateway and WiFi 6 access point that powers an entire network or meshes seamlessly as an AP within a larger UniFi deployment. Measuring just 98 × 98 × 30 mm (3.6 × 3.6 × 1.2") and weighing 302 g (10.7 oz), the UX is one of the most compact professional-grade gateways available. Powered by a Dual-core ARM® Cortex®-A53 processor at 1 GHz with 1 GB system memory, it runs the UniFi Network Application natively, managing up to 4 additional UniFi devices and 50+ simultaneous connected clients without requiring a separate controller. The UX features integrated dual-band WiFi 6 (802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax) across 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz with 2×2 DL/UL MU-MIMO on both bands. Maximum throughput reaches 2.4 Gbps on 5 GHz and 573.5 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. Antenna gain of 5.15 dBi on 5 GHz and 4 dBi on 2.4 GHz with maximum TX power of 25 dBm on 5 GHz and 22 dBm on 2.4 GHz delivers reliable wireless coverage across 140 m² (1,500 ft²). Internal antennas include (2) dual-band 2.4G/5G WiFi antennas and (1) single-band 2.4G Bluetooth antenna. Wireless security supports WPA-PSK and WPA-Enterprise (WPA/WPA2/WPA3/PPSK) with up to 3 BSSIDs per radio in gateway mode and 4 BSSIDs per radio in AP mode.

Wired connectivity is provided via (2) GbE RJ45 ports (1G/100M/10M) — one configured as WAN and one as LAN for network extension. Advanced networking features include OSPF dynamic routing, advanced QoS, multicast DNS (mDNS), advanced NAT (SNAT/DNAT/Masquerade/NAT Pooling/1-to-1 NAT), integrated RADIUS server with RADIUS over TLS (RadSec), LTE failover via UniFi LTE Backup, IPv6 ISP support, IGMP proxy, customisable DHCP server, policy-based WAN and VPN routing, and internet quality and outage reporting.

Security features include a stateful firewall, application-aware Layer 7 firewall, DPI and traffic identification, content filtering, and ad blocking. VPN capabilities include license-free SD-WAN, IPsec and OpenVPN site-to-site VPN, WireGuard, OpenVPN, L2TP VPN server, Teleport zero-configuration VPN, and OpenVPN and WireGuard VPN client support for secure remote connectivity. 802.1Q VLAN support with guest traffic isolation enables network segmentation.

Maximum power consumption is just 10W via USB-C (5V DC/3A) with an included adapter supporting 100–240V AC universal input — fully compatible with power standards across all East African markets. Heat dissipation of only 34 BTU/hr means completely fanless, silent operation. The polycarbonate enclosure features a 0.96" LCM status display for at-a-glance monitoring and a factory reset button. Management via Ethernet and Bluetooth. Operating temperature -10°C to 45°C (14°F to 113°F) with 5–95% non-condensing humidity handles the full range of tropical and variable climates across East Africa.
